Acting Jobs On The Web

It used to be difficult to find acting jobs on the web until about 5 yrs ago.  The industry has been very stubborn to move forward, but when agencies, production companies, and producers moved online, they found that the actors were here too.  And while it’s still difficult to find major roles online, it is possible to get a great start by just using the internet.

Sites like craigslist.org are indespensible for finding acting jobs on the web, but the work is often questionable as anyone can post.  It’s in your own best interested to find out as many details as possible and always remember that you should never pay a fee to join a site, or go an audition.  Nor should you agree to a project without knowing the details, unless ofcourse you want to do adult work.

Local casting companies with their own websites are another great place to garner work from.  You can usually sign up with their database through the internet, or sending in a simple form.  You may have to pay a small fee for being listed, but it’s generally no more than $10/$15 a year, or for as long as you’re listed.  A good example of a site like this is Central Casting, a premiere casting agency in L.A.

Other sites that provide detailed acting listings are sites like Casting Call Pro, that offer free limited profiles to actors with the opportunity to upgrade for a monthly fee.  These sites will often have castings that you might have to either a) look through numerous sites for, or b) are gathered through live sources. 

The last source you can try, is trade magazines with online sites like Backstage.  Their classified’s section will often included real listings of agencies and casting companies who are looking for a particular look or talent that they may have difficulty finding in their area.  (Natural Southern accent in New York City?)

Though the actor’s best way to find out about acting jobs on the web is to build strong contacts in the industry through networking.  Sites like Myspace and Facebook are often the best way to keep in contact with people who you casual meet while on set, and it makes it easy for them to send you a message about a role that you’d be perfect for.
